The proposal took the fortress's own vantage as its subject: a simple cubic pavilion, clad in timber, its walls punctured with window openings of different sizes and shapes, each one aligned to frame a specific view already visible from the roof — Vesuvius, the port, the city's towers and bridges below. Visitors could sit, lie down, or move through the structure, discovering intimacy and openness, light and shadow, as they explored the city through its windows. By day, the space read as a quiet reference point on the skyline, shaped entirely by natural light; as evening fell, lights placed within its walls turned it into a warm lantern, visible from multiple points across Naples below.
The project treated light itself as the primary design material — shaping mood, perception, and the contemplative experience the pavilion set out to hold.
