The work presented here was undertaken during the studio founder's tenure at CAF×.
Micro-Festival was CAF×'s way of keeping something of the old festival's format alive inside its new year-round structure — a concentrated burst of public programming, recreating in miniature the immersive density the annual festival week once had, spread periodically across the calendar as part of CAF×'s year-round programme. It was one of the products of the shift that took CAF× from festival to forum, replacing a single annual week with a year-round programme and a biennial — a format that ran for two editions, both during the transition itself. Where the annual festival had spanned every kind of format across the city, Micro-Festival narrowed its focus to film specifically, built entirely around screenings and the conversations that framed them.
The programme was organised around three questions about the future — of conservation, of community, and of contemplation. The Future of Community paired Daniel Schwartz and Giovanna Borasi's films When We Live Alone and Where We Grow Older — on capsule-hotel living and ageing populations — with both directors present, and later screened Ben Wheatley's High-Rise, introduced by Mads Brügger. The Future of Contemplation turned to architect Emilio Ambasz's spiritual, landscape-based buildings through the film Green Over Gray, introduced by Stadia Arkitekter. The Future of Conservation brought Hans Christian Post's new film on the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde — delisted as a protected building in 2018 despite being considered a Brutalist masterpiece by many architects — into a panel with Kristoffer Lindhardt Weiss and Dag Petersson, author of Delisted — A Political Story. The programme closed in mid-December with Sven Blume's documentary on architect Sigurd Lewerentz, introduced by architect Thomas Bo Jensen.
CAF× produced and coordinated the full Micro-Festival — its concept, naming, and identity; the copywriting, PR, and campaign carrying it across CAF×'s channels; and its print, digital, and motion graphics design — alongside the project and event management its spread across six weeks demanded.
CAFx Micro-Festival Vol. 2 was supported by Realdania, the Municipality of Copenhagen, Det Danske Filminstitut, and Statens Kunstfond.
