2023-2025
The work presented here was undertaken during the studio founder's tenure at CAF×.
Rebuilding the Journal was itself a strategic decision — turning an accumulating, undifferentiated archive into a structure that could carry CAF×'s full editorial ambition, and hold its own as one of the organisation's three core areas of work alongside exhibitions and policy. The rebuilt Journal consolidated the site into three sections: Collections, groups of articles, interviews, and podcast episodes gathered around a shared topic; News, CAF×'s own running updates; and Podcasts, its growing audio archive. Each Collection began with research on two levels — understanding what a Journal reader actually needed from CAF× and the deeper research each Collection's own content required, whatever its topic. The Journal's editorial frame treated architecture as inseparable from politics, science, sociology, and art — each Collection built to hold a topic from more than one angle. Editorial decisions — what got commissioned, what got published, how a Collection was framed — were a team effort at CAF×; some Journal content was written or produced in house, some commissioned from outside contributors and collaborators. Each article's visual material was curated with the same care as its text — sometimes photography, sometimes illustration, made by the studio founder herself or commissioned from outside collaborators, chosen to match what it accompanied.
Podcast production ran through a mixed process — recorded and produced largely in house, and at times with an external production company brought in to help — with the studio founder handling how each episode reached its audience once it was made. A number of Collections grew out of CAF×'s standing partnerships — 10 Dogmas with VELUX among them — built collectively across the organisation. Each Collection and podcast release carried its own campaign across CAF×'s channels, coordinated by the studio founder as part of the same process that shaped the content itself. Running the Journal day to day was its own operational work — deadlines, coordinating contributors, and managing production schedules across every Collection and podcast episode — handled by the studio founder throughout.
Several Collections from her tenure paired directly with CAF×'s exhibitions — Coastal Imaginaries, FOODSCAPES, Commission on Circularity, Strange Adaptions — while others stood on their own.
The Journal's structure on the website was built by Open Studio, working under the studio founder's direction, as part of the same identity system as the rest of CAF×'s site.
The Journal has continued since, with new Collections added on the same structure.
